Tricky Thursday

SUPER COOL GEOGRAPHY WEB GAME!!!!! (Get permission to click the link…) This game has me addicted. The world is such an interesting place! There are places I have guessed were in the United States, but in fact were in Africa, Russia, and Australia.

Fun fact: “I am.” is the shortest complete sentence in the English language.

Problem of the day: What state is shown in this outline map? (hint- it’s in the United States…)

Monday, May 27, is Memorial Day. It is the day when America honors the people who have given their lives in service (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard) to keep our country safe.  We will go on Saturday to plant flags on the graves of American veterans. Here is a photo of Cameron a few years ago helping with the flag planting. We have gone for the past five years. There are 80,000 graves that have a flag individually planted. It takes about an hour to put the flags out. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Venturing Scouts all help with the flag planting. We go to the  Los Angeles National Cemetery which is near the 405 freeway, north of the 10.

hannah This is Cameron when he was in the first grade. We went with Cam’s friend to the NFL studios and met this guy who was an actor on Hannah Montana. He played Mr. Corelli. Do you recognize him? He was very nice and friendly to the boys.

Remember: NO SCHOOL tomorrow or Monday. See you on Tuesday!

Wound-up Wednesday

kiltThis is a picture of Jeff and me at one of Cameron’s lacrosse tournaments. Jeff is wearing a kilt, not a skirt. It is similar to a skirt. Men in Scotland wear kilts on special occasions.

Miniature Monday

Fun (but gross) fact of the day: The average chocolate bar has 8 insects’ legs in it.

DSC04788Someone asked about the wings that are hanging above the calendar. I bought them for Cameron when we were at a street festival in Orange County. Here is a picture of him wearing them. I think he was probably four years old.

Vendredi

Fun fact of the day: There are more chickens than people in the world.

hero This is Cameron with his hero, Matt Russell. Matt is a goalie for a professional lacrosse team (LXM.) Matt went to the Naval Academy (Navy) where he was the goalie. When he graduated, Matt became an officer in the Marines. Cameron wants to go to Navy, be a goalie there, then graduate and become a Marine officer. Just like Matt!

Sweet photo of the day:

Silly photo of the day:

sillycam More goofy Cameron!

Sweet photo of the day:

hammock Cameron and Jeff gave me a hammock for my birthday last year. It is on the deck in our backyard. I love to listen to music and watch the birds fly around overhead. Sometimes I have to use a blanket if it’s chilly and I can even fall asleep there. It is big enough to cuddle with my boy!

Wiggly Wednesday

Fun fact of the day: A polar bear’s skin is black. Its fur is not white, but actually clear.

Photo of the day:
grandmapa These are Cameron’s grandparents at a wedding. My father-in-law was bald because he had cancer and the chemotherapy treatment caused his hair to fall out. Sadly, he died in January of this year. He was a nice guy and a wonderful grandfather. My mother-in-law looks especially beautiful here, probably because she was so happy her son was getting married to a really nice and intelligent woman.

Twirly Tuesday

So, testing is OVER! Everybody breathe.

Science fact of the day: The smallest bone found in the human body is located in the middle ear. The staples (or stirrup) bone is only 2.8 millimetres long.

lax Cameron is finally better! Thank goodness for that. He played a lacrosse game on Sunday (also Mother’s Day) and when they came off the field, each player handed his mother a red rose. You can see me holding my rose here. It was very sweet.

Mathy Monday

I hope the math portion of today’s test went well for you all.
